Healthy nutrition for children and adolescents
Nutrition is essential for health and wellbeing. Eating and drinking are basic and vital needs. Food behavior is a central component of a healthy lifestyle. There is much in the first 10 years of life, learned and educated. Acquired early in life dietary risks (eg obesity) and have a lasting negative impact on health in later life.
Objectives
Goals of nutrition in childhood and adolescence are:
* Ensure growth and development,
* Avoidance of deficiency,
* Prevention of diet-related diseases (such as metabolic disease, hypertension, cardiovascular disease) and
* In very rare cases, the treatment of diseases (eg, congenital metabolic disorders such as phenylketonuria).
